What Te Mata Estate Winery was looking for.
As one of New Zealand’s most prestigious and historic wineries, Te Mata Estate Winery’s legacy deserved a digital presence that was just as celebrated as its wines.
They were looking to partner with an agency who could help them to improve their digital performance that would drive revenue generating opportunities profitably and efficiently. Without any prior use of Google Ads or effective analytics, the winery couldn’t measure its performance or drive strategic growth.

- We began with a full audit and a “Quick Wins” project to immediately enhance the user experience. We cut the website’s page load time in half (from 4.4s to 2.4s) and streamlined the ecommerce checkout process.
- We also introduced new revenue features like digital gift cards and international shipping.
- One of our biggest jobs was supporting their complex transition from WooCommerce to Commerce7, a specialist winery platform.
- We ensured a seamless migration by implementing enhanced conversions, integrating Google Shopping feeds, and maintaining performance and SEO throughout the entire process.
Building a Integrated Sales Engine.
- From a standing start with no prior ad spend, we launched Te Mata’s first-ever Google Ads campaigns, which delivered immediate and impressive results. Our Performance Max campaigns consistently achieved a 303% ROI, with every dollar invested in advertising generating over $7 return in direct revenue during peak months.
- We also implemented a robust SEO strategy to capture new customers through generic wine searches, not just their brand name. By optimising for structured data and dominating Google Shopping for branded searches, we’ve prepared Te Mata for the future of AI-powered search.
- Email marketing moved up a gear, generating up to 25-60% of total revenue during campaign periods after we shifted the focus to rich storytelling and updated email templates.
The Coleraine '23 Launch.
- Our integrated strategy truly shined during the launch of Te Mata’s flagship Coleraine ’23 wine.
- This coordinated, multi-channel push produced outstanding results, driving a 303% return on advertising spend, 83% increase in website users and a 72% increase in new users.
- The campaign created a halo effect that boosted sales of other wines, generating an impressive lift in total revenue that month alone.
- Crucially, our analytics revealed significant engagement from Australia and the USA, providing data-validated proof of a powerful opportunity for targeted international growth.
